How can I convert a three speed column shift to a quarter stick or floor shifter?

I have a 79 f 150 4.9 with a three speed column shift. What parts would I need and how could I convert it to a quarter stick or floor shifter?

  1. just get a Mr Gasket floor shift kit, and the instructions are included, then punch the pin out of the collum shifter.


  2. Pep boys will have a floor shifter in stock, you buy it and mount it to the floor, putting holes underneath it for the levers to hang down, disconnect the current shift rods from the column and connect the rods that came with the shifter to the trans.

    The tricky part is adjusting the new rods correctly, read the instructions a few times so you have it straight in your head & you will be fine. Install the cover boot and your good to go.

    A word of experience, if you spend the extra few bucks for a Hurst or B&M shifter you will be much happier than a cheaper Mr. Gasket or similar brand.
