  1. through the analogue leads into a dvd recorder, analogue capture card etc.

  2. Use video editing software , many available

  3. http://www.ulead.com/vs/compare2.htm

  4. It depends on the camcorder used to capture the video and what type of computer you have.

If Windows, Sony Vegas for AVCHD compressed video from Sony flash memory and Sony hard drive based camcorders... and Adobe Premiere for Canon (and *maybe* Panasonic) flash memory and Sony hard drive based camcorders.

If Macintosh, the iMovie that came bundled with iLife08 (plus the 7.1 update) or the most current FinalCut Express or FinalCutPro.

If you used a DVD based camcorder, the only way to get to that video is to bring it to your computer using an analog/Digital bridge - though uLead for Windows *might* be able to deal with the DVD. I don't think there are any DVD rippers that can handle AVCHD, yet - But I could be wrong...

Once the video is in your editor and you are ready to burn to DVD, if your computer's DVD burner is single layer or double layer (not a high definition format burner like HD DVD or BluRay), the DVD menuing/burner app should automatically downsample to standard definition format... At least, that's how it works in my high-def editing and final rendering environment...
