Question:

How can I convince a 10 year old that Six Flags isn't scary?

My little cousin worked all school year (by joining a reading club and reading tons of books) and won a free ticket to six flags in Gurnee, IL. He was so excited, but our aunt has freeked him out so bad by telling him that people die on the rides (that kid who had a heart attack, ride failures etc.) and now he's having second thoughts. I want to convince him that everything is going to be okay. I don't think that he should miss out on this; he's never been there before. I just would like some advice as to how to motivate him to go, so that he can have the time of his life. He deserves it.

  1. tell him your aunt is retarded!- no just kidding

umm... tell him about your favorite rides there or remind him of positive amusment park experiences. or get your aunt to make it right by convincing him

    :]hope this helps

  2. Explain that those events are less than 1 in a million.  Do some web searches for backup.  Then ask him how old he would be if he went there a million times (the answer is thousands of years old going daily).

  3. It is scary. Go to somewhere decent instead.

  4. Tell him that .01% of people even get injured on roller coasters, and those people are usually impaired or have diseases, unlike him. Besides, all his friends go on those coasters.

I don't know if any of this is true or not, but neither does he.

  5. if he's afraid of it, then don't make him go. it's his choice. after all, if you make him go, he'll probably just end up miserable. leave him alone.

  6. Stastics mean squat to a 10 year old.

Tell him that yes, those things happened  - but not at THIS Six Flags.   And tell most all the accidents occur from people not following the directions (not quite true, but it will help him).

And tell him he really doesn't have to ride on all the rides, he can just ride on the ones he feels comfortable with, walk around, and enjoy being there.

And your Aunt is a nut case for freaking him out like that.

  7. Perhaps, like me, he doesn't like the real scary rides.   He could certainly go on rides that are "tame".  10 years old is still pretty young to go on any scary ride with or without a companion.  My nephew is 10 and I don't think he would be comfortable on some of the adult rides.

Why don't you go on Six Flags' web site and preview the park with him so he'll know that not all of the rides are scary.

  8. let me guess he heard about the teen who got decapitated about a week ago

  9. give him statistics of other things i.e. car crashes!

let him know hes actually safer there than on the way there.

  10. Me  & my 10 year old are BOTH afraid of amusement parks. Hahaha. My 6 year old and hubby go hogwild for rides.

I would just take him there and let him decide if he sees any rides he wants to try out. If not, it's OK , if he changes his tune, it's OK too and he gets to have some fun.

  11. tell him that if he doesnt want to go then you'll just take the ticket. lol. he should go.
