How can I convince my Mum to let me bring my rabbit indoors to live?

My rabbit, who lives outside in a hutch, has been continuously thumping (he is doing it for attention, at around 4.30am). My neighbours have complained that it is waking them up. It is waking me up and Mum up too and I have to go down there t give him a piece of veg to shut him up every night.

I told my Mum the only way to stop him doing it is to bring him indoors to live. We have a space in our dining room (aka her study) for him to go, I would keep him in a large pen with lino floors. He is neutered and litter trained and VERY clean.

How can I convince her? She said she doesn't want animals in the house, I told her that unless we get rid of him (which she doesn't want to do, he was a rescue) then we can't stop the neighbours complaining. She said she wanted all the poos cleared up every single day, I said I would buy a dust buster so I can easily hoover them up. I've tried cleaning the kitchen to make her a litle happier, what else can I do to make her say yes? (and quickly!)

  1. I had the same problem with one of my rabbits. It is so loud and very annoying so i see where your coming from.

You can tell your mum a wel known facts that rabbits are the easiest pets in the world to litter train and for house pets. This is because once a rabbit has picked its spot then it will mainly ever only go there. I brought my rabbit in my garage which has no cars in. I stuck a litter tray in the garage and in no time the rabbit was doing its business in the litter tray and was running freely and happily round the garage.

As for houses my cousin kept a rabbit in the house and they do not smell at all if you look after them enough. Clean their poo or wee corner out at least every 3-5 days and you will have no problem. This corner is normally in the corner of his hutch or cage so its not hard to tell. Buy some airfreshners for the study as some times people do forget to clean the corner and this is when it starts to smell.

Bringing your rabbit inside doesnt mean it will be inside twenty four severn have him in at night and out during the day and this will limit the noice he makes and will keep your mum happy.

I hope i have made sense to you and hope all goes well good luck. Kind regards Genty

  2. Your mum knows best....it will make the house stink.

  4. this is a great article.  show it to your mom.

neutered rabbits do not smell.  it's the litterbox that smells.  as long as you are diligent about cleaning, there should be absolutely no odor.

i think this would be a great idea.  you'd be so much happier, he'd have more attention, and indoor bunnies live longer, healthier lives.

    good luck!

  5. get another rabbit. They live in groups. I have two rabbits to keep each other company i think that you will find that if you get another rabbit she will be happy P.s you're mum is right YOU'RE RABBIT IS LONELY

  6. Rabbits don't stink if kept clean. If you walk in my house, you smell cat and dog, but no rabbit. An indoor rabbit will live much longer. And they are more a part of the family. My bunny is always the center of attention. Everyone loves her, but if she was outside, she wouldn't be thought of as much.

Tell your mom that you just want to try it, if it doesn't fix the problem you can try another solution.

http://www.rabbit.org has some great articles about why rabbits should be kept indoors. Show your mom all of that!

  7. Get a gun.

  8. First off the other answer said 'your mother knows best and it'll stink' no... use a nice house spray to keep things smelling fresh or one of those plug ins.

Go on the internet and find out benefits of keeping your rabbit indoors. =) Hope thats helped good luck. xxxx

I hope your mum says yes. (I love rabbits ^_^ i got a hamster today!!!)

  9. rabbits have a much happier life indoors, they live to be nearly twice as old (the average age for an outdoor rabbit is 6 whereas an indoor is mid teens) they are alot safer, they are better looked after just because people are around them more and so more aware of their requirements and it is just generally more humane, rabbits need fresh hay constantly and should not be allowed romaine lettuce or large amounts of carrots. Check out this website www.binkybunny.com and browse the information you will find everything you need to know about house rabbits - even litterbox training them (yes it can be done and infact its really easy!!) if you have any questions feel free to email me, rabbits are seriously underestimated and need a lot more than people think, feel free to email me :)
