Question:

How can I convince my friends to go skiing?

I'm a keen skier, but my friends don't seem interested.

I've taken one of my friends before to Xscape, he liked it but he doesn't want to go again because he "can't be bothered".

Another of my friends has been before, but wasn't very good at it and so he doesn't want to go again... He said his skis kept slipping apart, though I'm sure he'd do better now he's older.

When I asked another friend he said he just doesn't want to go....

I've said that if we all learn to ski then we could go on a skiing holiday somewhere (my uncle owns a house at a ski resort)...but they don't seem too interested.

Thanks :)

  1. dnt worry about wat they say

stik them in the car and drive!!!

  2. Hmm...you could rent/buy a Warren Miller movie (or another ski movie) and show it to them.  Or just tell them how much you like it and why, and agree to do something that they like with them in exchange.  Address any specific fears/reservations they have about it.

  3. Hey James, SkiMan here.

You can't please everyone so ya have to please yourself.  for years I would try to turn my friends on to skiing with little results.  Best recommendation is to find ski friends like dontknow wrote.  I skied 72 days last year with Me, Myself and I, the three best Ski Buddies you can have.  Of course other people showed up but those three guys were there every trip.  Get out there, use your Uncles place as often as you can, if you ski, ski friends will come.  I will ski with you at Loon Mtn. NH, look for the SkiMan, I'm not hard to find.  Just do it!  Ski on,  SkiMan out.

  4. Well you could bribe them with the awesome ski towns that mountains are normally around. But they're probably just upset because skiing seems like such an easy thing to do. I know how you feel though. A friend of mine came with me to my ski house before and she just sat in the lodge the whole day. You could also go on a trip and say that you'd only spend half the time skiing and then the other half trying something none of you guys have done (renting snowmobiles, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, etc.)

  5. it is just for fun. if u suck the first time get back up and try again. skiing i s SO much fun

  6. Tell them it wont be that serious, that it will be a good laugh. When I went skiing, we didn't just ski 24 hours a day. We went shopping and then after we went to bars and clubs and stuff. Tell them they don't have to ski ALL day, maybe a couple of hours in the morning then shopping in the afternoon. Thats all I can think of, they sound like pretty stubborn people. :D.

  7. go to this resort where your uncles house is.. ski all the time... make friends there, that way you have friends you dont have to convince to go. nothin worse than buddies that dont want to play.

  8. i love skiing...my father started skiing when he was 35 and therefore had great difficulty...i started when i was 4, and was recruited by the u.s. ski team when i was 8. the older you get, the more difficult it is to learn...so if your friends keep declining your invitations, pretty soon they're going to lose their physical opportunity to learn to ski...and as someone else said, skiing has turned into such a "shiek" sport, and now great dining, stores, and various other activities have now centered themselves around ski resorts made it a great vacation spot...they're missing up on a great opportunity...and since your uncle has a house! they're missing up on even a bigger opportunity...they don't understand how difficult it is to get a house at a ski resort...prime real estate! explain to them what i just stated and if they still decline, then find other friends to go with...friends that understand the great opportunity your offering them

    good luck
