I'm 14. My mom is considering letting me get a job at a local wendy's restaurant through school, but it'll most likely be a no. how can i convince her? I'm a pretty responsible teen. I'm in advanced classes and I do band. And I take extra trumpet lessons. I also play drums, and I'm a nice person also, and i can be very respectful. I can be lazy, but I usually get things done. I get decent grades in school. Mostly B's, sometimes a C here and there, And a few A's. Can anyone help me convince my mom that i can hold a job and get school things done also?

  1. Well most likely if u do get the job they will probably only have u work on weekends, the drawback is is that instead of hanging out with your friends on the weekend you'll probably be working. That is what u should tell your mom, that instead of hanging around the house all the weekend or talking on the phone you'll be out making money and doing something constructive, also remind her how freekin hard it is to find a job during the summer and if you take the job now you won't be searching for a job for your entire summer....but i would also make good grades on my first report card sooo it would be easier to talk to her about your responsibility.

  2. Ask her if she has time to talk, and when she does, tell her that you want to talk to her about getting a job.

Tell her that you are getting older and will soon or later will have to start taking responsibilities for yourself. let her know that you WILL be able to handle everything you do already plus with a job.

Depending on how your mother is, it might take a while for her to be convinced. But Be patient, give her time.

if she still says no its prob. cause she just doesn't want her child to be stressed. It is hard work cause i use to do it myself and think i could handle it... which i did your right. Just make sure you can do it.

    Hope i helped

  3. With band and all you have a pretty full load there.

It'd be best if you didn't get a job until summer when there is no school.

  4. I agree, maybe with your workload at school-you should wait on the job.  If you need money, do the usual things, running errands and chores for neighbors or family. If you have spare time, maybe invent something or make something and sell it.  You sound like the enterprising type. Start your own business and let her see how responsible you are with it. Actions really do speak louder than words.  Good luck, I know you can do it.

  5. You're young to be working a regular job, but perhaps she'd let you start with occasional babysitting or maybe working a little weekend time at Wendy's (if they can hire someone your age...I thought 16 was the minimum). If you can show no negative change in your grades, she may allow more.

Personally, if you were my kid, I'd want you to have better grades than you mentioned (no C's) before allowing you to get a job. The chances are high it may affect your grades and school is MUCH more important than a job (at your age).

Rock in your classes and maybe she'll feel you're ready to take on more responsibility.
