I am 15 years old and I have an extremley long and heavy period. I cannot deal with it anymore because it keeps getting worse and worse. My mom is agaisnt me going on birth contorl because she says I am too young. The ONLY reason I want to go on it is for my period and not for other reasons. She also says there is negative side effects but I really need to go on birth control. How can I convince her?

  1. i asked my mum and she said im too young but she'd take me to doctors over cramping. said only way id be going on it at 15 would be if doctor said to go on it [fingers crossed he will] my mums exact words were " i dont want u goin on it too young it can **** ur hormones up".. but yeh, go to doctors explain ur problem then they should give u options that will fit ur life style..

  2. Invite her to go to the ob/gyn together to discuss your health concerns and have the doctor explain about birth control and its side effects.  Ask if there are any other alternatives for lightening your flow (since your mom seems to think you're asking so you can have s*x).  If she's not cool with the ob/gyn, go to your regular doctor; they should know as well.

  3. I am a staunch believer of birth control.  I went on it at 14, before I even became sexually active.  I think most parents, especially moms, think that if they let you on birth control it will be like giving you permission to have s*x so they refuse it.  I think this is sad because, in effect, all they're doing is leaving you at risk for pregnancy.  In your case, for your period, I know that birth control can have positive effects in helping with heaviness and cramps.  I know that in Idaho, where I live, you can go to the state clinic and get birth control without parental permission (in fact, it is illegal for them to tell your parents without your permission).  I'm not saying that going behind your mom's back is the thing to do just an option.  I think I would sit down with your mom and explain to her that you understand her hesitation but reassure her that just because you are going on the pill doesn't mean you are going to become promiscuous.  I would also do your research so you can go to your mother educated and informed, believe it or not, that will go a long way

  4. An unwelcome thot, but positive thot is to take your mom into the examining room with you.  This will allow her to hear the dr's presentation to you.

    All the best,

  5. You should make an appointment with your doctor and have her in the room for it.  The doctor would be able to recommend what can be done and answer her questions about the different types of pills.  If the pill is not the best option you have to be accepting of it though.  It's kind of a double edged sword.
