How can I convince my mom to let me keep my pet?

I just bought a pet aquatic frog and I really like him. I live down at my school for most of the year and totally forgot about how my mom isn't really down for animals, for when I come home for breaks. How can I convince her to let me keep my pet? I'm already super attached to him and I don't wanna lose him.

  1. well the first answer isn't going to work, cuz obviously while your away at school your mom has to take care of it....  so yeah, locking it in your room is retarded....

Anyways, if your mom is a stereotypical mom, and she ain't "down" with animals in general, I'm sure your mom is even less "down" with a FROG!!!!  So your going to have your work cut out for you.

Honestly, I know you don't want to hear this, but these are things you have to think of when you get a pet.  Any pet, being it a cat, dog, or a frog.  Always make sure you have the means to take care of it....  You are not any less responsible for this pet than if it were your child...  That pet is dependent on you, and waaaaay too many end up in shelters abandoned.  I don't know if you can bring a frog to a shelter, but in the case of cats and dogs that happens way more than it should.

Anyways, what's done is done.  And I understand (even though I'm not particularly a frog gal myself) how easily attached you can get to an animal, as I am extremely attached to my cat, and I even consider him my "son".  So your first goal is to try to figure out how to keep him, but if you can't you need to make sure he's properly taken care of in other ways.

I would sit down with your mom, and just be honest and upfront with her.  Let her know you realized you made a mistake but if there's any way you can compromise and find a way to care for it when your in school.  Maybe she'll surprise you and go for it.  I mean if he's kept in your room, and all she has to do is go in there a couple times a day to feed him, and occasionally clean out the cage or whatever, I'm sure she might agree to it, even if it wouldn't be her ideal pet.

Or maybe you could keep it at your dad's or something??? You didn't mention him, and I don't know if he's in the picture or not (sorry if he's not, don't wanna bring up anything bad or whatever) but if your in contact with him, and on good terms, talk to him maybe....

Do you have any friends who share your love for frogs???  Maybe keep him at a friends house while your at school....  He could stay at your house when your home or something..... Another idea if a friend likes it, but isn't allowed to keep it, is if they just come over a couple times a day to feed him for you....

Just a few ideas, but I'm sure you could find him a good home, where you can still maintain your "visitation" rights :-)  If all else fails, however, unfortunately you might have to give him up.  Just leave him in your back yard.  He's a frog, they can live in the wild in the woods or whatever.  Now I don't know much about frogs, and I'm basing this on an assumption.  It's possible once frogs are kept as pets they lose that wild instinct, being the fact that they're used to being fed, etc.  Or he might try to come back, in that case maybe leave him further away from the house.  But if the frog can't really survive in the wild by itself, being that it's already domesticated, than maybe the shelter is the best bet at this point.

Whatever you do, make sure you leave him in a loving, caring, environment, and that he's being taken care of.  And that includes the wild, if applicable, but again make sure he is able/willing to take care of himself.  If he just sits at your backdoor expecting you to come out and feed him, that may not work, lol....

But whatever you choose, good luck, and I hope your mom has a change of heart :-)

  2. Just tell your mother that you will keep it in your room so she doesn't have to see it.  Plus, remind her that it will not get out and get loose.  It's not a hamster or a dog.

  3. Take it to school with you.....

Return it to where you bought it from, if your mom is not "down"  with animals and you leave it home, what happens if your mom forgets to buy him his live foods?? your frog starves to death.
