Question:

How can I convince my mum to let me dye my hair black?

At the end of the year in the summer holidays I will have over two months off from school and want to dye my hair black during that time.

I will only use a temporary or semi-permanent colour, so it will have washed out by the time I return to school. I have light brown hair, but I have dyed it dark brown a couple of times before and bleached highlights into it a couple of times as well, but right now it's just my natural colour.

But this time when I mention wanting to try a temporary or semi-pernament black dye on my hair, she says no. She tells me that she spends heaps of money on my clothes, so I can look cool and stylish, not like a washed out druggie. I don't get the point in that argument, because she knows Alison Mosshart is my style icon - pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/garbiedoll/2516993766/ and she lets me dress and get my hair cut like her, but suddenly the temporary black hair part freaks her out.

I don’t think it’s fair because she lets my 12 year old sister dye her hair black since she was 10, as it is dark brown naturally, but she won’t let me dye my hair black, because it is light brown naturally even though I’m 15. She tells me I will look washed out, but my sisters skin is paler than mine and she doesn’t look washed out. Even if I do look washed out, it is somewhat the look I’m going for.

I don't see why she won't let me, so how can I convince her? I'm not going to bring it up again for a while, but I want something really convincing to say so she will let me, as I'm not going to go behind her back and do it without her permission, because that will disappoint her.

  1. just tell her

  2. You are totally right about doing it with her permission, which leaves you with only one option: simply tell her. It is easier said than done, but back it up with why you want to dye your hair, and be respectful. Tell her nicely why. Good luck!

  3. Mothers know best - stop whining and complaining - appreciate your mother's opinion and concentrate your efforts on something worthwhile.

  4. Once you go black you can never go back.  Haha.  It's sadly true.  I dyed my hair black a while back and every month I have to try a new type of dye to try to get it back to blonde.  It was orange and black for a while after a salon lady tried to fix it.  It was stupid and I wished I would have never done it.  It stills has the d**n orange tint.

  5. okay, here's what you do. tell her you want a motorcycle, lol. when she says no to that, just keep asking for a motorcycle. after several days of pleading for the motorcycle, ask her "well, can I at least dye my hair black?" lol, she will say, "well of course you can, my dear"

worked like a charm for me
