How could I convince my parents about letting me get a phone that's on a plan?

I've basically always been strictly pre-paid.

My last phone had broken,

and I really like the look of some phones that are on a plane rather than pre-paid,

any suggestions =/

  1. You need to show them that you can be responsible with your money - how bout saving up what you think it will cost for the first couple of months? You also need discuss with them what you'll do if you accidently rack up a massive bill (which you should avoid anyway as you'll lose their trust) or if you lose your phone while you're still locked into the contract.

Do some research on the best deals not just 'the prettiest phone' and just show them that you're sensible enough to deal with being locked into a contract and not end up with huge bills.

  2. This is a tough one. You will need to really state your case effectively in order for them to even hear you out.

First you need to ask them at the right time. The best time is during dinner. Bring it up casually, but before you do, make sure you have already done the research on the benefits of having a plan as opposed to pre-paid. Compare the two in a way that it will make it seem that it is smarter and more beneficial to get a monthly plan.

Make sure you don't whine and you have all your facts, because they will throw a lot of doubts your way and you should be ready with the answers.

  3. If you don't own your own business, you don't need a phone.

  4. kids these days, what would u do without ur fone???

  5. Hmmm you can pretty much get anything from your parents if you can make them think it was their idea.

  6. Pick a phone or pick a plan then research ALL the different plans/phones you can get for your plan/phone. THEN talk to your parents and see which one they would be most willing to pay for. Make sure you show them ever different combination and try to keep the monthly payments as low as possible, parents dont really like to spend to much on cellphones/gadgets.

  7. get a job and pay for it yourself

  8. stick with prepaid and wait until you are old enought o get a plan in your own name...to get a plan it is a contract and on your paretns credit...if you don't pay then they have to or it affects thier credit...they can't just call up and cancel.  Who cares if you like the look of the phone...I'm an adult with three kids who does not have a plan...I use prepaid...doesn't matter, be happy you can have a phone.

Tell your father that 500 bucks is way too much money to be spending on a phone for you...you can get em at 50 or so bucks...and you pay for it yourself and the minutes...that's what my teens do.

  9. Suggest T-mobile. They have a commercial out that features a plan that allows parents to control usage so they don't have to worry about a high bill. That way, they can set up a limit equal to whatever they were giving you for Pre-paid minutes.

That way, you're not costing them any extra money and you'll actually wind up getting more minutes for the same money on top of having a broader selection of phones to choose from. Also, you'd probably be able to get a phone you like for free for opening a new line as opposed to having to pay full price for a prepaid phone.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
