Well I'm looking for my first car, and my parents won't let me get anything but a Mercedes (not complaining lol) or a Volvo. S I came upon a blue 1999 SLK320 Kompressor with a hard-top convertable. I'm in love with those cars. I wan't it so bad, but My dad's concerned that it's too small. He want's me to get the ML320, which isn't bad either, but I would take an SLK over that any day. So how can I convince them to let me get it? Thanks

  1. Your Dad sees something you don't. You are a little emotional about what it is you want. Listen to your Dad's reasons and then let him know yours. The convertible, even though you will look great in it, may not offer enough utility for you later on and Dad dosen't want you to be bumming off him, using his car.

  2. get something else

i prefer a camaro, firebird, mustang, subaru wrx sti, honda civic si, acura integra, well anything made by acura....honda prelude, toyota supra, nissan maxima, nissan altima, mazda 626, toyota solara,

lexus is300 lexus sc400(i think thats the model?) hyundai tiburon, mazda rx7, mazda rx8, toyota camery, nissan 240sx, chevy calavier, 97/98 chevy silverado(lowered on 20's) chevy tahoe, ford probe, chevy impala(them ******* are fast) pontiac fiero(rear engine...like a cheap porsche)pontiac sunfire, pontiac grand am, mitsubishi eclipse, mitsubishi 3000gt, mitsubishi galant vr-4, dodge neon(with a turbo these cars can be REAL fast and REAL cheap)

and alot of others...i thought i was getting a car but was terribly wrong...so when i THOUGHT i was getting a car i thought about every car i would want to buy(there all fast and customizable)

hope my list of great inexpensive cars helped you...btw

most, if not all, are under 10 grand

    i wanted something under 5k...

    edit

japanese cars are of better quality...anything japanese is of good quality...you are a spoiled brat, thinking anything thats below mercedes are pieces of ****...grow up

mercedes are pieces of ****, expensive to maintain, and expensive as h**l on the insurance...i hope you buy it...youll be stuck with a deadbeat in the middle of nowhere...and spending a **** load of money on parts and labor...and mazda isnt japanese its owned by ford/jaguar/mercury...and nissans are good cars so are mitsubishis for the most part...some arent but the 3000gt's are good

and chevys are american so is ford and dodge...and hondas run forever

i know someone who has a civic with 600k miles on it and still running strong

    oh btw

your most likely getting one with 90k miles

less than that and the sellers are retarted...but really its not going to last you another 20k miles...youll be buying another car in a year or two

  3. Geez....poor kid.  Wut a dilemma....

I asked my mom 4 a car she laughed at gave me a bike instead,  be grateful for wut u have and wut ur parents do for u.

  4. 10K is your limit? Then you wont be getting an SLK..

1st ) Ignore your parents, and get what ever car you desire.

    2) DO NO GET car for status

What will you use it for?

How often will you drive it?

What do you want it to have?

Do you want agility? Handling? Speed?

Older cars specially luxury ones mean alot of $$$ for maintenance..

YOu want a good looking 2 seater?

Why dont you look into an MR2

    It's toyota, so it's reliable.

They are very rare and exotic and I would much rather get it over any Mercedes.

Look into the TTOP Turbo one.

They are fast, they handle just fine and they are s**y.

If Buying an older car I would suggest a Japanese, yet IDK your personality.

If you want somewhat luxurious, get a 95 Maxima..

I smoked an SLK with my old Maxima.

Or maybe a Lexus IS300. Acura LEGEND... TL...

Im just saying with German engineered vehicles, specially older models, you will have problems.

  5. Convince them by getting a job and paying for it yourself.

  6. Get whatever they will get for you , you spoiled little brat.  Complaining about getting a MB you are more then spoiled as if you were my kid you would work and pay for first car or at least part of it. I hope because of your attitude you get a 3 wheel bike with a basket and bell. Personlly I think you arelying because you are on internet but.....

  7. You're looking for really old cars so if you're going to get a POS, you may as well choose your poison, right? There's your approach.

The ML, in my opinion, IS a better car. The SLK is the saddest MB coupe next to the short-lived C230 Kompressor. I highly doubt your parents would limit you to Mercedes (and supposedly Volvo) only, unless they were terribly uneducated and totally unaware of the marked decline in MB reliability in the past decade. Or you're just lying because it's the internet.

The SLK isn't quick or particularly safe and the appeal is limited, even as a poor man's toy car. Why NOT get an ML? It had a really rough start from 1998 to 2001 but you're not getting a shiny new car either way so just get the one that'll hold your stuff and keep you safe. If you really want safe, though, get a Saab. They've been safer than Volvos since 2003.

PS - a 1999 is about 10 years old. Wouldn't you rather get something newer and nicer?

  8. dude i wud kiss my parents a$$ for the rest of my life if they got me a mercedes. so u should pretty much take whatever mercedes they wud get for u. to be honest ur first car is ur learning car and ur pretty likely to get in one crash most likely more no matter how good u may think u drive so getting a small car is not smart unless u wanna get squished like a bug. if u really want that car that bad just pull a gun on ur parents hahha.

  9. Let me know when you convince your parents, that way I can convince mine to buy me the car I want when I graduate college.

I like the ML320 better, it has more room in my opinion than the Kompressor.

Happy driving when you get it.
