I am a teenager and have wanted a dog for a very long time. I have been asking my parents since I was like 11 and they won't let me get one. They always say that I'm not responsible enough. So how can i get my parents to let me get a dog???

  1. well i have the same poblem, you should do something like wash up and do house work without being payed to show you can look after your self and you are responsible to look after a dog!

  2. Please dont follow someones stupid advice of getting one and suprising them with it, unless you want to see him in a shelter.

if they say no, respect their descion, im sure you wil be goin to college or uni soon and it will be upsetting for you and a dog to be split up, and your parents will be lumbered, its much easer to wait til you have loads of time and your own place, and you gan go pick your own dog.

jus thought, you could try asking your neighbours if you can walk their dogs a few times a day, to prove to your parents it would get done.

  3. 1. Try doing some extra chores around the house, just because.

#2. Since school is starting up, try getting good grades this year.

#3. This works on some parents, but just keep asking them over and over again, now some parents will probably get mad and say, "Shut up!! Or you'll be grounded!"

    Hope this helps!! :)

  4. if one of ur friends has a dog and is going away for awhile ask to watch it. make your parents come with you, so that they can see that you are responsible and are good with dogs.

  5. Sorry but it is your parents house and their rules.  When you are on your own with a good job, then you make your own rules and can a dog if you want.  In the meantime, volunteer at a shelter and help some dogs by walking them.

  6. Convincing is not always about the words, but more so the actions. By showing your parents youa re responsible in stages you will be more likely to achieve tat goal. Don't just one day to decide to clean everything and give everyone food, start small, then get bigger. Just taking out the trash, doing dishes, or other basic do's without being asked will give your parents a smile, and boost your chances in their mind. Do this for about two to three weeks, then when you find them happiest, start conversation with them, don't abruptly ask, "Can I get a dog?" First talk light, compliment what their wearing (but don't be cheesy), and aks if they need help. Typically, they will say, no I'm fine. Hit them up at their happiness peak. Then slowly build to the question. Tell them how responsible you've been, and they will understand, because you have the backup of the previous works. I truly hope you get a yes after all this, and good luck!

  7. Hi,

Whenever thinking of getting a dog/puppy you have to think of it as a lifetime commitment, at least 10-15 years of your life.  There are too many dogs in this world who people think they want one or they need one then they realize how much work dogs are and they turn them into shelters.  Our shelters in the United States are over crowded because of impulse decisions to just go get a dog.  If you truly are ready and everyone in the house agrees to help with the dog...feeding, walking, taking them out to pee and p**p 4-8 times a day. All dogs have to be walked no matter what size they are.  It makes for such a well behaved and well rounded healthy dog PLEASE ADOPT FROM A SHELTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Clean ur room, wash dishes, be responsible. Explain to ur parents y u want a dog. Maybe even take them to a shelter and look at the dogs who nos they might fall in love with a puppy before u. Keep in mind that dogs are a lot of work and stay focused : )

    Good Luck

  9. You need to show them that you are responsible. Either by doing chores, helping people. Ask them the reasons they have for not letting you get one. You need to find a way to let them know that you will feed it, take it for walks. Save up some money. Good luck! =]

  10. Ask them how you could prove your responsibility. But honestly, it's generally best to just wait it out. If they don't want a dog, if they end up getting one they'll look for every excuse to get rid of it.

  11. Well what age are you now?

Will/have you gone back to school?

Dont get a dog unless someone can stay with it all day everyday.

Tell your parents that you understand the responsibility of taking care of a dog and you are willing to undertake it. BEWARE- there is ALOT of work and money involved in making sure a dog lives a healthy and happy life. Show your parents how much you want one and maybe contribute something towards the payment of the dog.

    Good Luck! :)

  12. You can start by showing them you are really responsible. Do chores around the house, make good grades in school, and stay out of trouble. Do things for them for no other reason just to please them. Do things unexpected- such as even when they dont ask you- do things like the dishes, or even make dinner for them.  When you show them how responsible you are and obedient, they should come around.

  13. Ask a friend if u can petsit one..

Tell your parents.. if i can take care of this dog.. for the weekend lets say..

And they think u are succesful.. then you are on your way

  14. pick up after yourself do ur chores and do it before your told then start giving good reasons you should get a dog for example maybe you want a chihuahua say you have asama while i heard they help with that

    here is a site

  15. I feel for you lol, but there isn't much you can do about it since your parents have been saying no for years

I think it's best to get a dog when you've moved out and have your own place

  16. get a honor roll

    and say u deserve it

  17. If your parents dont think you're responsible enough.. they are probably right.

Besides, you will soon be graduating and moving out to get your own place or to go to college.  They dont want to be "stuck" with a dog then.  Very few colleges allow dogs on campus, and its next to impossible to find affordable housing when you start out, much less affordable housing that allows dogs.

  18. yesss same with me i never had a dog.

but i really want one so now i have a job and im just gna buy one.

so u should just get a joba nd come home and surprise them with a dog!

  19. Prove that your responsible by doing an impressive deed or something for them. Try to change their mind!
