How can I convince my parents to let me get an airsoft gun?

I want to get an airsoft gun with the money I raised by mowing lawns and stuff. However my parents are highly against. I've explained to them that almost all of my friends have airsoft guns (including one who's father is a cop and a friend of my father's) and that I would not shoot any animals or anyone. How can I convince them to let me get an airsoft gun.

  1. Saying "all my friends have one" is not a very good argument it is easily shot down.

The best way depends on the reason why.

What I would do is make a deal with them you buy an airsoft use it on targets and responsibly and you can keep it. If you use it wrong they take it away and sell it if they wish. Stick with any rules they make it may suck but it is the only way to get the gun.

It is important that you do not bug them on the subject if you try what I have said and they still budge then they most likely wont for a while, just let it be. Don't even bring it up again unless you are sure that they may decide otherwise. Give them time.

    Good luck.

  2. There is always one parent who is more open minded to the idea than the other.  Concentrate on that parent.  Send all your arguments to them.  Get them on your side.  Then they will convince the other parent for you.

  3. My parents were initially against the idea too, but you just need a lot of reasons that it would actually be beneficial. First of all, gets facts and stats from reliable sources (airsoft shops, I know AirsoftGI, Shortyusa, and Kapowwe have decent descriptions about the nature of airsoft on their sites. ).

You can also argue that airsoft not only prepares you for the worst if some catastrophe ever occured, but it can also be a workout (especially if you run with lots of gear (I'm usually running with about 20 pounds of gear including my gun and attachments). If you don't get out much, they ought to be sold on the matter by now.

If necessary, you can use airsoft's second cousin, speedball (a fast paced spectator friendly version of paintball) as an example that wargames are more mainstream than they thought. Paintball occasionally makes it onto ESPN2.

If they're still not convinced, have your friends shoot a video and show your parents that it's not as bad as they think. If you parents allow it, go get shot up a bunch and tell them that it doesn't hurt. A few of my friends actually got into airsoft by getting shot and realizing it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as perceived. From a medium distance, it feels like a medium-hard flick with a 300 FPS gun using .2g bbs.

You can also beg and nag as a last ditch effort. Take note that this is a last ditch and most likely won't work.

Don't lose hope. It took my parents a ton of convincing, but I ended up getting an airsoft gun in the end. Just keep trying, and you'll get one soon enough.

  4. tell them that your friends play airsoft matches and all wear a lot of protective padding like masks or you could tell them that you just want to shoot cans in your backyard thats how i got my parents to agree
