Question:

How can I convince my parents to let me purchase an iPod Touch?

I'm turning 14 in a month and I've never asked my parents for anything drastic all my life [except for a computer which was essential for schoolwork]. I'm currently an honor student at my school. Also, I don't receive an allowance from my parents.

I've tried discussing purchasing an iPod Touch with my parents but they won't allow me because they feel that listening to music is unnecessary. However, I just need them to take me to the store to buy the product or let me use their credit card information to buy the Touch online (I have the money necessary to buy the touch and I'll pay my parents back if I use their credit card).

So how can I persuade my parents to let me purchase an iPod touch?

Please don't call me spoiled -- I've really never bought anything big in my life except the computer I'm on.

  1. OK, you have enough money to buy it, but have you calculated how much the plan will cost you per month (after all the additional taxes, fees and required plans)???  It could easily cost you $100 a month for a minimum of 2 years . . .  and by the way, since you 14 years old, your not old enough to sign a legally binding contract for a phone.  Your parents would have to sign for the plan and be liable for the cost of the monthly plan.

You need to show them how you have saved enough for the phone and the cost of the plan.  Research how much the plans are and how much you have saved to cover the cost.

  2. Just buy it if you have the money. You're parents sound like real a******s. If you have the money, it's really none of their business what you do with it. Are they like super religious and think that music will negatively influence you or something? If that's the case, they seriously need to stop being such control freaks and learn that you can't be sheltered from the world forever.

  3. Have your friends mom take you out to the mall - buy it there and don't let your parents find it. :) That's bad advice because if they do find it, you will get it taken away.  Just wait until Christmas - - they will get you one if you wait and are patient.  Good luck, darling.

  4. They think that music is unnecessary? Music is an art form, that opens the mind to one's emotions, ideas, and future. Each genre be it classical to rap is a piece of art, just as paintings are relieving to the mind and the eyes music is soothing to the mind and ears, it seems that them thinking that music is unnecessary is the only reason they won't let you have one. You could also tell them about the touch's many other features, including internet browsing. Also to the poster that told you to put into account the plans, iPod touches... they don't have cellular plans, because they're not cellphones,

  5. offer to work and pay it out of your allownace
