Question:

How can I convince my parents to let me start getting my L's?

I've turned 16 last year and I had many plans to get started but they don't allow me to. A lot of my classmates have completed it and I feel left out.

What can I tell them that can hopefully change their mind? They keep telling me I don't need to start yet because I'm still studying but I want to start early!

  1. Make them drive you to things until they go crazy.

Make sure you ask to be taken to important things so that they can't say no.

Library on other side of town.

    Remote park for biology assignment.

Orientation day at futherest university. etc

I can't believe parents wouldn't want their kid to learn to drive- unless they reckon you are going to hoon around like a complete knobspanker.

  2. I think that you should talk to them.Explain that you are a responsible person and will obey any conditions that they may want to make. I understand why they dont want you to start driving. I have gone through the same thing with my children and grandchildren. Its not  that they dont trust you it may be  that they are frightened for you as so many young drivers get behind the wheel and forget that they are driving a lethal weapon in the wrong hands.Good Luck.

  3. You're parents are probably just worried. Talk to your parents and ask them why they don't want you do drive? Do you take silly chances and worry them or have they lost someone they know on the roads? There could be another reason.

Prove yourself to them, tell them you will pay for the lesson's yourself. Download the questions off the RTA website and start studying them, ask your parents questions, let them see your serious and cautious.

You need to do 100 hours on your L's and they last for 3 years before the expire, take it slow, you don't have to get your P's on your 17th birthday.

Take it seriously, don't play around with the stereo or things that could take your mind off the road.

Perhaps you could come to an agreement that you can get your L's and get some practice in but agree you wont get your P's till you finish school.

    Best of luck.

  4. what?

    thats so mean

they can't do that can they?

    i mean u start learning at 16?

how will that disturb your studies?

you need to start learning now so when your 18 and all your friends are driving you wont have to keep getting dropped off by your parents.

    tell them i feel outraged.

    lol

    goodluck

  5. Good on you mate.  You got some good answers already, and I would just add that the more practice and experience you get as a driver, the safer you'll be.  So tell that to your parents.  Also keep off the booze, do your homework, and generally show you're mature enough to be trusted with their precious car!!

  6. wow, thats harsh.....i think that they are hiding behind that excuse as they may think you will get into an accident (so...over-protective parents)

someone said somethigng good above...they will never have to drop you off anywhere again!

my dad cant wait for me to get my L's in late september/early october.....we drive Brisbane-Sydney a lot and I can get 100 hours sooooo easy (you need 100 hrs in QLD)

sorry,  I cant give an answwer that someone has not said.

  7. Please add in details what L's are.  Thanks

  8. Its your legal right to get your Ls, tell em that you will never need them to drive you anywhere ever again.

Its criminal that they wont let you get them, I feel sorry for you.

I can't wait to get my Ls and my parents cant either coz they hate being a taxi.

You should tell them that since you are over 16 you feel it is significant to you to get them as it is a responsibility you need to take on as part of growing into a responsible young woman/man, whatever you are.

Tell em how much it would mean to you and comprimise. Make a deal that you wont do this or that if they let you get your Ls.

Tell em that having your Ls wont mess up your studying because it is extremely important to you to study because you want an education.

Make them feel that you are old enough to have them, you deserve them and you are responible enough to have them.

    Good luck,

ps, dont feel left out coz i have to wait to the END of the year to get myn and at least you will be 18 before a lot of ppl who have their birthdays toward the end of the year, it isnt a race to get your Ls.
