Question:

How can I cool my bedroom??

I recently moved into a new apartment with a friend. It's a newer complex, maybe three or four years old. The air conditioning in the common areas works fine, but my bedroom is always five degrees warmer than the rest of the apartment. I have to run my box fan in my room constantly, and I'd rather not lower the thermostat below 75 because the electric bill is too high.

Should I go out and buy a better fan for my room? Or should I talk to maintenance about it and see if they can help?

  1. Probably the location of your room is on the sunny side of the apartment and receives more direct sun.

Be sure any windows are well shaded with blinds/curtains.

You can partially close the vents in the other parts of the apartment to force more air into the bedroom.

Or keep the door closed on your room and only go in at night when you can open up the windows.

  2. You could also turn the fan on the a/c to "on" so the fan keeps running when the a/c would normally turn off when it reaches your 75.  That will keep air circulating and even out the temperature in the apartment. But most people don't like the noise but you are running a fan all the time anyway.

    Good luck.
