Question:

How can I cool off my house without using the air condition?

I don't want to put in my ACs yet, because it's only 77 degrees here in Pennsylvania.

Yet, it is a little too warm for my comfort in my house, at 67 degrees.

So how can I make it cooler in here, to lower the temperature to oh, around 60 degrees?

Should I open the windows, or leave them shut?

  1. well you could open your windows and get a couple of those fan things that fit in your windows, and turn on all your ceiling fans,

  2. Create a cross breeze by opening two or more windows on opposite ends of the house. Turn on any ceiling fans to force the hot air down and out. Or take a cake pan, fill it with ice water and place it in front of a box fan. That's how a/c used to be before coolants came along.

  3. Leave shut and put up reflective curtains to keep the sunlight out.

  4. When it gets hot, don't open your windows in the day. The house is cooler inside. What I do is get up early (around six) in the morning and open all the windows. Then I go back to bed. Since it is cooler outside in the morning, this should cool your house down considerably. Then, when it starts getting hot outside, close the windows. Limit the times you open the doors to your house so the cold air doesn't escape. Open the hatch to your attic. Since heat rises, the heat will go straight into the attic, being replaced by the cold air from the windows. Fans are just a waste of money because they just push the air around. Unless, you put them next to your window and draw the cool air from the morning in. That is the only reason why I have a fan at home. Also, open the windows at night too. This will also cool your house down too. If you follow all this, your house should be pretty cold inside.

  5. Yuo will need to add a refrigeration system to your house, or one room. Normal AC is not designed to cool below 70 degrees. You will want a a medium temperature unit installed. Its designed to cool from 40 degrees to 60 degrees.

  6. Haha, here in L.A., 60 degrees sounds like the arctic!

anyway i recommend leaving the windows open at night---your house will be icy cold in the morning.  Also, try those standing fans.  if you put one in your window--with the back facing out--it will work majestically.  i like to create a wind current by facing one fan into the room and another fan in the spot where the first fan is blowing the most wind.  face the second fan toward the door or the other window, and INSTANT ICE AGE.

    good luck :]
