I have old home tapes I want to transfer to disc. I don't have a vhs camera, I do have a vcr.

I also have a TV-tuner.

On the front of my PC are 3 RCA jacks (W,R &Y) & s-video jack.

I don't know where to start. I have Vista with media center, Windows dvd maker... I could also get what software is best if I knew.

Thanks for any help

  1. Those jacks on your PC sound like they're for output only.

You'd need a card that accepts inputs then video capturing software.

In all honesty, you might be better off getting a DVD Recorder with VHS combo refurbished from a place like eCost, uBid or Dakmart, dub the VHS to DVD at XP speed (best quality) and then copy onto your PC through DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, DVD Fab Decrypter, etc.

You can get a refurbished DVD-Recorder/VHS Combo for under $100, sometimes as low as $79. I got a JVC model about two months ago from eCost and you'd only know it was refurbished because of the sticker, I recently converted all my old personal VHS stuff to DVD and it's so much easier to watch everything now, being able to jump ahead, without cueing or rewinding.
