Question:

How can I copyright my own DVDs that I made?

I make DVDs for my church of services and programs that are held there, I sell DVDs and 100% of the profits go toward the church and out to members who are sick and shut-in. However, I have an uncle who is liable (and sadly most likely) to make copies of these DVDs and resale them for his own profit, especially to our sick and shut-in members. Is there anyway that I can copyright protect these DVDs I put so much heart into? Or at least protect them so that they can not be easily copied? If so how can I do this? Thanks for any contributions!!!

  1. Ask your pastor/minister to tell your church to buy DVDs ONLY FROM YOU (or from the Church office) because that's the only way the church benefits.  This way, no matter who copies them, they can't benefit.

  2. No, there's no effective method for you to do this. Copy protection schemes exist for DVDs, but (a) they are hugely expensive and available only to large corporations and (b) they can easily be circumvented with readily available copy software.

However, you can take out some sort of legal action against your uncle to stop him doing this, if you feel that strongly about it.
