I have so many ideas and inspiration. I love vintagey/antique type of things, but I also love mod/contempory things. My ideas seem to conflict and I can't even decide a color-scheme. How can I create a bedroom that suits my taste and is cohesive?

  1. I think that vintage and antique things look really amazing with modern and contemporary stuff. They're a good mix, really. Just go with your instincts. Just start grouping things together and see how they look. But don't get too carried away or yeah, you probably will have some trouble making the room look cohesive, for example, if you have to much stuff in the room. Even if the things are all really visually appealing, there could just be too many things in the room. Combine different styles, but simplification is key.

  2. Well its great you have many ideas there are definatly ways you can pull the ideas together. As for the color scheme the colors always reflect your personality. If your more mature and calm go for light soft colors. If your totally out there go for bright crazy colors. if your stuck in between maybe go for a soft wall color and bright accessories as long as the colors match.

For your more vintage/ antique / mod / contemporary theme to me it sounds a bit like your more into a classic state. For your 'classy' living i have a little color book thingy here lol and it says for classic living Create a space of understated beauty and splendor with clean curves in natural materials. Marble and high polished wood juxtapose glass chrome and brushed metal surfaces use subdued lighting to add mood and softness to intense shades. Freestanding furniture, both modern, and period, is complemented by antique accessories and dignified floral displays.

For the design of your room i dont know exactly what you want but i suggest something like this: light soft blue walls with white or slightly cream furniture (bedding, couch or chair) choose pictures that defy your vintage or antique theme with a modern twist. Darker blue accessories (pillows, lampshades, clocks, boxes) If blue isnt your color maybe you'd make due with a soft yellow or fresh green if your looking for deeper warmer colors maybe red with the accent colors of black and pure white. Ive seen some beautiful mature rooms with soft blue and chocolate brown sooo gorgeous.

Good luck with your room im sure it'll turn out great.

  3. The way to bind random things to create a cohesive look is to make sure all of those things have one thing in common, whether they are all the same color, same size, all have texture, all are shiny or matte, all are curvy or something like that along those lines. Otherwise you will have a modgepodge and it will look overcrowed with junk.

  4. You can certainly match antique or traditional with mod/contemporary.

Like taking a super ornate wing-back chair and painting it a fun color, or white gloss white black fabric.

Its best to nail down one or two colors and stick to them. As far as mixing and matching do all one style with one odd piece.

Like all sleek and contemporary with the black & white wing-back. Or if all traditional one lucite end table, or funky wall sculpture.
