Question:

How can I create the look and possibly texture of sand on my walls?

I was thinking of a beach look for my master bathroom mainly because I'm running out of unique ideas at this point. The only thing I can think to use is actual sandpaper, but doesn't that sound tacky?

Help is much appreciated!

If you don't know how to do the sand thing, PLEASE give me some advice on what to do with my bathroom!! I have used creams & browns else where in my house as well as teal green in my master bedroom. It has one small window and a medium sized sky light so I'd prefer nothing dark.

Please and thank you!

  1. There is this spray paint that has the sand look, and feel, at wal mart. Only problem is, the name escapes me.

  2. well i suggest if you can't make a sand texture on your walls try faux painting or faux finishing. Here's a list of sites where you can learn how to faux finish and paint good luck!:

  3. There are many paints that come with textures.

Ask a local hardware store if they carry any spraypaint that looks and feels like sand.

  4. You can use Valspar Signature Sandstone paint. It gives the appearance of a sandy texture and it's pretty easy to do.

  5. I think a beach theme would go better in the bathroom than the bedroom. My mom did that in her house. She painted the walls a pale yellow, put a basket of shells by the sink, got a toilet cover with actual shells sealed inside of it (really neat looking!), and hung one of those wreaths made out of branches, but glued shells to it. She also put soap in the shape of a shell in a small dish by the sink. I think it looks great. You could always change the color of the walls to like a sky blue or closer to a sand color if you didn't want pale yellow. As for the master bedroom it's either Home Depot or Lowe's that teaches painting techniques. You could easily learn how to paint textures and then just use a color you like. After painting, maybe get a new bedspread to compliment the paint, maybe even new curtains. Good luck! If you need any more suggestions just e-mail me!
