Question:

How can I cure my very squeeky staircase?

I cannot access the underside of the staircase without ripping down a large portion of the kitchen cieling.

  1. If the carpet is up, then talcum powder down the crevices.  Also a few strategically placed screws (not nails).


  2. get a piece of rope and fasten it to the top of your staircase and the bottom, then tie little knots all the way up, this way you can climb up the rope just like indiana jones and when you come down use a tie and swoop down really fast, this is what we have done in the past. love jane

  3. I was going to suggest using the lift/escalator until i read DEL Ps answer,its so simple its brilliant,the only thing to do.

  5. If it really bothers you that much lift the carpet and replace the "squeeky" stairs

  6. TAF gave the right answer - sprinkle talc - thats what I have read in the past, hope it works.

I'm definately with Del P on this one.  Alternatively you'll have to try to locate where exactly the stairs are squeeking then lift the carpet up or other floor covering and s***w down any loose boards that you may have.  I think squeeky boards add to the ambience of a house though and I would just leave them.
