  1. I had the same problem with my guinea pigs...they kept squirming, and one time they bit me.

I would stop trying to clip them. You can take ferrets for walks, they do sell leashes, so maybe try taking it for a walk or let it run around someplace, so that way it will be too tired to squirm. Worked for me...just don't push the little thing too far! :) Good luck!

  2. I had the same problem, then I read some where if you place 8in1 FerretVite supplement on their bellies it distracts them as you clip thier nails, I've done this many of times and its excellent, but i still have a problem with their back feet. I hope you find this helpful.

  3. First of all remember to be gentle yet firm because putting up too much of a struggle could possibly cause accidental injury to your pet. My guinea pig squirms when I even attempt to get near her with a pair of clippers so I usually try to make the whole experience worth her while.....you might try giving him/her a favorite treat before or while you clip his/her nails. If your ferret is too smart to fall for this try doing one paw every hour because perhaps its staying still for long periods of time that gets him/her mad. If you make him/her struggle to long the situation can become all to stressful for your pet and he/she might get angry and possibly bite or nip you. When your ferret is calm try holding him/her against your chest with paws facing outward. Gently hold you pets paw and snip one nail at a time( dont cut the whole nail just the tip so they do not curl under)****be careful not to cut the quick which can be described as the pink color inside your pets nail because it will cause them to bleed****if your ferret has darker nails it will be harder to see so only cut the very tip so as not to injure your pet..... If my advice did not help I would suggest taking your pet to a local veterenarian who should be able to do it for you at little or no charge

PS I hope I helped and good luck to you and your ferrets!!!

  4. I'm not sure if you've ever taken to your ferret to the vet, but my vet showed me this. But if you hold your ferret by the skin on the back of its neck, they like instantly fall asleep. It won't hurt your ferret I promise! It's really crazy! You should try it! They yawn and close their eyes and are completely calm. The vet does it to get ferrets shots and stuff. If you had another person to help, one person could hold the ferret while the other clipped it's nails.

  5. There is no right or wrong answer for this. Just like humans not one thing works for every ferret. These are the methods I use for my 7 fuzzies. Sometimes I scruff them Grab the skin on the back of their neck and hold them up. W/ some ferrets it will totally relax them and they will remain calm for the whole ordeal. Other ferrets still squirm around. I also sometimes use Ferret Vite and put it on their tummy or on the top of my hand. They will sit there and l**k it off. It's a very thick gummy paste, so it takes them a bit to l**k it all up. Other times, my boyfriend will snuggle w/ them while I clip their nails. As I said before there's not one way that's 100% right for every ferret. You've just got to figure out which way works best for you and your ferret.

  6. wrap the ferret up in a towel. make sure they are secure by getting someone to help you then clip their claws. hope this helps it works with most small animals including very grumpy cats lol
