How can I cut up an MP3 so that I can make a short MP3 from a segment of a long MP3?

I am looking for easy, cheap (or free) software that will let me "crop" an audio file that is 3 hrs long. I only need about 2 minutes from it. Any ideas?

go to www.sourceforge.net and download the program audacity, it's free, there are several versions ,choose the one with the gold medal on the left and 43 million or so downloads, spend some time with it, it's fairly easy to learn, and works quite well. you will need a code for the program to convert to mp3, so look this upon the on the internet and download it (libmp3lame-3.97). works for me. good luck.

Audacity is perfect for that sort of thing.

Be sure to get the LAME plugin to be able to export as mp3.
