  1. I find the easiest and cheapest way to have great ice is to rinse it before using it in a drink, etc. The taste/odour issue is on the surface of the ice, which is removed when you give it a quick rinse. (e.g. - Put ice in a glass, put some cold water in that same glass, give a couple of swirls, pour out the water - (hang onto the ice) - and you're good to go.

  2. Ex tex has a good point but your ice machine may need cleaning and sanitizing. It only takes a few minutes and you buy the chemicals at  an a/c supply house.I clean mine twice a year. You will also get full and better looking cubes.

    Good luck.

  3. Leave fresh coffee open in your freezer...  It sounds weird but it works..  Change it once a week to begin with, then once the smell is gone, do it monthly.

(ground coffee, it traps in the smells and odors)

  4. Use baking soda and change it out often.  Also, make sure you are not putting those plastic grocery bags in the refrigerator.  The smell of those things is bad and travels to the freezer.

  5. I say cleaning the ice maker won't help.

It is not just the food in the freezer. Remember that the refrigerator does all the cooling in the freezer then circulates air from the freezer in to your refrigerator to cool it.

That means if you stick an onion unwrapped in the refrigerator your ice will taste and smell like onion.

You need to clean the whole refrigerator to help with smells.

    Good Luck.

  6. It's not the ice maker...it's all the other food in your freezer. Make sure all the food is bagged good...and you can also put a box of Arm & Hammer  in the freezer. It will help absorb the odors.

You can also use some charcoal brickets....just use the cheap ones...not the ones with lighter fluid already in the brickets. The charcoal will absorb odors too...and you will only need a small bowl of them in the freezer.
