The reactions are

H3C6H5O7(aq) + 3NaHCO3(s) ---> 3CO2(g) + 3H2O(aq) + Na3C6H5O7(aq)

...and

Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) ---> H2(g) + MgCl2(aq)

We were working with a 1.0M solution of HCl and a 1.5M solution of citric acid.. Also, the solids were pure.
