How can I develop a natural vocal vibrato?

I'm a soprano, and I have an audition spring of 09. I trying to find a vocal coach in my area that fits my budget, which is quite small. I can only achieve vibrato when I force it, which I know is bad. Any tips?

  1. You need to completely relax your vocal chords. Vibrato is formed when your vocal chords don't have any tension in them and can vibrate on their own.

Proper breathing technique is also important. Breathe from your diaphragm - take a breath deep from your belly instead of moving your shoulders. When you breathe in, make sure your belly button area expands. Then as you're singing, suck your tummy up and in, like you're trying to make yourself look skinny.

  2. i am a singer, and i have "natural vibrato". the fact is, if you dont have the natural vibrato in your voice, then you can't force it.

i personally have alot of trouble singing without it.

you just have to practice practice practice. celine dion's song "my heart will go on" has ALOT of vibrato, so it's a good song to practice.

if you dont have it and would like to download it, here is a link:

it's free (: use the third one.

and i have an almost perfect vibrato and can sing this very easily. so it may be difficult at first but you'll know you have the vibrato when you can sing it!

    good luck to ya. ;]
