I have a phobia of germs, and I bought some video's from a charity shop.

I've cleaned the boxed already but is there a way to clean the actual video without damaging it?

  1. Are you seeing someone about this phobia? It sounds like it's really got a hold on you and you should really be addressing the phobia rather than working out how to clean video tapes. Speak to a GP or counsellor or something because it sounds like it's getting a bit obsessive.. Aren't you finding the phobia frustrating? - after all it's YOU who should be wanting to to get rid of it.

  2. i dont think you can

  3. Germs are not going to live on them long you know..it's a hard surface...nothing to nourish them.

  4. You can't disenfect the tape itself, but you can wipe down the plastic casing (the cassette) around the tape.  Use Clorox disinfecting wipes (or something similar), but don't get moisture inside the wheels or on the tape itself.  Just wipe down the parts you'll be touching when you handle the cassettes, and don't put a cassette that's still damp into the VCR.
