Question:

How can I divide a room into 2?

I am trying to find a way to divide a large room in to 2 smaller rooms, one for myself and my spouse, and 1 for my daughter. So having a adequate amount of privacy is a must. I am on a VERY low budget, and I can't build anything as I don't think my landlord would be too happy if I did. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. Take tape and apply to the carpet and tell everyone, THIS IS MY SIDE....hehe

  2. it would be easy to hang a curtain between the spaces.  you can use wire (like picture hanging wire) to string fabric or curtains on.  they sell a kit at ikea for 14.99 that will stretch up to 189 inches (here:  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc... but you could just buy wire by the foot from a hardware store.  plenty of fabric stores sell cheap but pretty fabrics, so you could create your own curtains--or you could use sheets.  check out thrift stores for extra cheap ones!  i have found some great vintage prints in thrift stores.  if you're not able to sew, most craft and fabric stores sell steam-a-seam, which is tape-like stuff that allows you to use an iron to fuse pieces of fabric together.  you could create a pocket for your fabric curtains with steam-a-seam, then thread the wire through and hang em up!  once it's time to move, you can spackle over the holes.  good luck!

  3. In a rental there's not much you can do but hang curtains or use folding room dividers, which afford little privacy. Maybe landlord would allow a wall petition, if it stays there after you leave?  Ask.

  4. room dividers .. I can't think of anything else your landlord would agree to.

  5. Try use bookcases and alternate  them so each one has storage on each side of the room . use a spring like curtain rod  attached to the edges of the bookcase then place a curtain for a door. Instant privacy.

    hope this helps
