  1. First - add your details to the registries here

    http://www.isrr.net/

    http://registry.adoption.com/

Check for information on your state records here -

    http://adopteerights.net/

(click on the page marked 'Searchers' down the left hand side)

Check here for search help - and links to search angels -

    http://www.adoptioncrossroads.org/

And check here for any support - it's the best online forum for adoptees I've found -

    http://www.adultadoptees.org/

Also - try to find out what adoption agency was involved - and try to get info through them. (talk to a-parents, relatives - check for papers)

All the very best with your search.

  2. Hire a local and reputable legitimate licensed private detective, preferably a former police officer; and give him or her any and all info that you have as to your birthmother and as to your birth (date, etc.) and personal medical history.   Make sure that the detective is aware of your financial circumstances before the detective's fee is set and provided to you.  It is true that there are avenues of exploration available via the internet, but unless you know what you are doing, you might find yourself paying for info of little or no use to you whatsoever.   Please keep in mind that your birthmother, if living, may not want any contact from you, so a statement from you in writing explaining why you want to be in contact with her is something that the detective hired could share with your birthmother if found and encourage her to be more receptive to a relationship with you.

  3. there are adoption detectives that you can hire to find your birth mother..i found my birth sister and brothers this way...i looked for twenty years with my birth name...and she found them in a week...it cost me 750 bucks...and i would have gladly paid three or four times that much because i finally knew who i was and were i was from...it was all about my piece of mind..you can call them and get quotes if you want the lady's email that i used ..email me ill get it to you...

  4. Hrmm...start putting posts up on adoption web sites....state your state of birth, your birth day....and if they are looking for u then they will find you.

  5. In my brothers case it was easy we had the original birst cert. that listed the parents ... try to find the org. you might know the town u were born in...check city hall....BUT the real question is why do u want to??the past is the past...U can get a court order to have your files opened............In my brothers case it was horrible his birth mother wanted nothing to do w/ him a second time

  6. It's not illegal to search for you natural mother, so that's not an issue.

A lot of this depends on the state in which you were born because different states give you access to different information, up and and including the original birth certificate with the names of your first parents.

The best place to start is to find out what's available to you, and go from there.  Here is a link to a place that will give you the information you need, along with search tips.

You can also sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry.  It's free. The ISRR is the largest and most successful reunion registry for adoptees and their first families.

    ETA:

You don't have to hire a detective right away.  You may not have to hire one at all.  I didn't, and neither did many of the adoptees or first parents I know who have searched and found.

Because we enjoy free association in our society, you have every right to contact her to see if she wants to talk with you or not.  Over 90% of first mothers welcome contact.
