I have two computers, one is a laptop, and one isn't. On the one that isn't a laptop, i have a webcam and im going to set it up outside my house like a video camera. So how can I see the video feedback from the webcam onto my laptop? "I want to see if my neighbor is messing with my stuff"

  1. First - set up a home network

Buy a router at your local computer store and connect both computers. You can do this with a wired router (cheaper but you have to plug in the laptop) or wireless (a little more expensive and you have more work to do making sure the connection is secured) but either way, both computers can communicate

Once the network is set up and running, install one of the many free VNC (TightVNC or UltraVNC to name 2 of them) programs on the machines. Put the VNC server on the desktop and set it up as a service. Now it will start and run when you start the machine.

When you want to watch the camera, stat VNC viewer and enter the IP address of your desktop at the prompt. You will be asked for the password when you set up the server. Enter the password and you are in remote control of your desktop machine from your laptop. Whatever is on the screen of the desktop you can see from your laptop. You have control of the mouse and keyboard, so you can control your web cam however you want

    Good luck

  2. Go to site below. Create a free user account.

Install logmein Hamachi on both computers registered under your new account. Logmein will now run in the tasktray. Now as long as the Desktop that is hooked to the webcam is connected to the web you can access it through Logmein anywhere you can get internet access on your laptop. (and view your webcam) Some webcams also have motion detection that triggers video recording too. See if it is a feature of your webcam and you may not need logmein since the "evidence" will be saved to your desktop.
