How can I double check if the email address a person gave me is is really his or hers?

Some one gave me his/hers email address. How can I search for him/her to see if I got the correct address?

set up a fake email address under a false name and then ask

by the way it will say message delivery failed if the address does not exist

ask 1 of their friends if the email address is correct
