How can I download a movie player on my computer?

I somehow deleted the original program, apparently. Whenever I put movies into the disc drive, it's says something along the lines of not being able to watch movies on this computer because there is no player. So I need a simple, free program that allows me to play movies on my computer. Thanks!

Download Windows media player for free and watch all the movies you ant. Here is the link. Don't forget to download DirectX v 9.0c as well is you want to synchronize the music and the video.
