Question:

How can I dress more mature?

This is what I wore today (and how I usually dress, with variations of course);

dark blue skinny jeans, maroon (lace on top and bottom) tanktop with a longer grey/black/white plaid tanktop over (it looks better than it sounds), a black American Apparel hoodie, and white flats.

I never wear tshirts or skirts, but I'm thinking maybe start wearing instead of skinny jeans with my short dresses, wearing tights (maroon, grey, etc.). I'm also thinking of wearing those scarves that indie people wear (I really love how it looks).

What are other styles that might look more mature?

Btw, I'm 18, but I look 16, and my extended family treats me like I'm 8. :( I act responsible, now I want to dress the part.

  1. throw in some button downs with the sweater vest conservative type thing and maybe some pencil skirts and a blouse with high heels... you sound like you dress like every other 18 year old....

ive honestly been wondering the same thing for myself...

  2. personally i think thats how 18 year old girls dress. (well the ones i kno..lol) nah your style sounds good. I think yew should stick with what yew know(:

  3. The family may treat you like you are 8, not because that is the age you act towards them, but because they have seen you as a kid and the reality that you are an adult is foreign to them. My uncle is terrible for it.

Now for the clothes, I envisioned it as really cute. The only thing is I hate skinny jeans.  But that could be creating the younger look. Also any emo look can come across as 15/16 year old. (not saying you have one...but skinny jeans, its just in case) Try boot cut jeans, flattering for all. Or just try on anything but skinny, and shoes can make a difference as well. One thing about skinny jeans, cute with heels.  The scarf could have a cute vibe. I like the sound of the plaid and maroon. But the hoodie could discredit the upper half of the outfit.

Avoid any writing on shirts (Boys are smelly, that sort of c**p). Try shopping in more 'mature' stores. Not saying ot buy all of your stuff there, but buy bits and pieces-that you like, so that you don't cover up the person you are with clothing you don't always like.  Take tips/ideas from fashion icons, such as Rhianna, or whoever it is that you like their sense of fashion. You are still young so enjoy your life still. Express yourself. People don't always do enough of that!

  4. conservative is the trick

the way i usually do it when i need to dress for work is this:

will it make a man a pervert? and will it make a woman disgusted?

if you think men or woman will stare at you then its not mature.

  5. In general, if you dress up a little, you look older.

Now, don't go out everyday in a prom dress or suit...you might get a few stares.

Pair a nice shirt with jeans.

Pair a nice skirt with a casual shirt.

Wear casual clothes with high heels.

Don't wear bright make-up - as in, skip the green, teal, and purple eyeshadows.

Don't go overboard on the black eyeliner - it'll just make you look more like a high schooler.

And in general, if you wear sweats, you tend to look younger.

    Jeans are better.

    Good luck!!!
