  1. Mirrors make a room appear a lot larger. Use light colors, and be creative with lighting.

  2. Hang paintings or decorative mirrors on the wall.

  3. You can check out hgtv.com for ideas as well as ikea.com They will have great cost effective ideas. Also just use accessories and don't clutter up the rooms. Also try to keep the surfaces and the floors as clean and sparse as possible. Don't over load on extra furniture if you don't need it. Also the furniture and storage solutions should go from floor to ceiling to give the illusion of a larger and taller space. That will also draw the eye upwards! Hope that helps!

  4. Mirrors make rooms look larger because the reflection you see makes it look like the room extends more.  Open your blinds and shades and let in the natural light. If you have a futon and it is opened for sleep, close it and the room will look larger. Eliminate clutter and personal items. The less clutter in the room will make it look less disorderly. 5. Buy paintings, curtains, mirrors, and/or bright colored furniture.

  6. mirrors work at increasing the illusion of bigger, also if you use mirror tiles you can hang curtains floor to ceiling on each side of the mirrorsyou can hang the f/c curtains and cover a whole wall to change colors as well.

  7. all good ideas listed, but how about a tall plant (even if it's fake) in a corner will draw the eye up and it isn't alot of clutter but will cover a corner nicely and make they space more airy.

  8. Get a thin piece of wood.  Go to the fabric store and pick out a print you like.  Stretch the fabric over the wood and staple it on the back and hang it on the wall.  By using this technique, you can make the fabric panels as large as you like, or as small as you like.  Just pay attention to the width of the fabric you choose.  Make sure its wide enough, and be sure to check the fabric stores remnant table.  You can get some great deals there!   If the rooms are very small, you might want to get a pattern that is not too loud.  A multi-colored stripe might be nice too.

  9. Just buy nice colored furniture... Hang stuff on the walls suck as clocks, sconces, shelves, mirrors, even drapes to create a feeling of windows! :)

  10. If you desire some color, even on one wall, you could buy a colored fabric that you like (solid or other) and use it as a wall color- it can be stapled up and easily taken down or changed.  You could arrange mirrors or have one large mirror hung on that wall, or hang anything you want through the fabric.
