  1. Distance is not about hitting the ball harder....its about hitting it better.....Quality contact with a smooth swing will get the ball farther and with better accuracy than trying to kill the ball with your driver......It will also keep you in balance.   A lesson and a bit of practice will do you just fine.

  2. Although distance does come from clubhead speed it DOES NOT mean that you can just swing hard at the ball. This will make you tense up which actually slows clubhead speed. When you tense up you will also find that balance will be very bad.

I used to swing around pretty fast because I wanted the ball to go far, and at my club I can hit on of the longer drives out of players, so I wanted to keep my name for people saying I am a big hitting b*s**rd.

As I started to try and lether the ball it didn't work.

My last 3 rounds I have slowed my swing down to about 80-95mph. The ball is creaming, just as long if not longer.

This is because the whole timing of my body is working together.

You don't need to swing harder, if anything just slower so you get a steady tempo throughout the shot.

I heard that if you can't keep a hum the same pace throughout your swing then your trying to hit it too hard.

Another to find your ideal swing speed:

Once your warmed up and ready to play. Swing your driver has hard as you can without stopping for about 10-20times. When you are out of breath just do an easy half swing/full and this is your ideal swing speed.

Make sure you start your downswing with your hips turning and the rest of the body upwards will follow and uncoil, this gets your weight behind shot.

Take a club head (sock style one) for instance. If you twist it from the bottom and keep twisting the whole cover will coil up, and uncoil from the bottom, it will all uncoil.

Start with the hips and the shoulders etc will follow when your hips make them. This gets your weight in front of the ball and your arms kind of act as a whip lagging behind and the ball will fly without any effort.

People like Tiger Woods can swing up to 125mph, but only because he can keep anything timed.

I can hit the ball (on a good strike) 280+ yards and that is a very steady swing. Using the same swing speed today I can still hit my irons the same length, the only difference is I am hitting more greens now and not pulling them.

I even hit the flag on a par 3 and the flag somehow stopped it from getting my hole in one.

  3. Don't "throw" your arms at the ball.  Just let them "fall" through the swing plane.

You need to generate a faster swing-speed in order to maximize your distance.

To generate a faster swing-speed, take a bigger, more full back swing.  Get some really good shoulder turn...generate torque.

But always remember, tempo and timing are crucial.  This bigger, fuller turn will neccessitate a new timing with your lower body.  You'll have to work on that.

But don't rush your backswing, and don't rush your downswing.  Make sure it is nice and smooth, and really make sure you get your body into it.  You want to drive through the hitting zone with your lower body, while keeping your head and hands behind the ball.

  4. Work out.

There are weight machines that allow you to work the muscles of your form.  IE: golf swing, baseball swing.

Form also helps in this as well if not more than working out.  There are many techniques sold and advertised on how to have better balance true form in the swing but it is pretty much just learned by practice, with the help of a circular device rotated at a certain degree that your club follows the path of.

You may have seen these and they make a standard one.  but not everyone is standard.

But there is a Optimum Lie Angle that everyone has.  You just have to find it and that depends on your height and length of clubs.

    Good luck.

  5. Being extremely quick thru impact will help the most.  Three things ultimately affect distance:  Speed of clubhead, quality of contact, and launch angle.  If your swing is at its fastest just after impact, you will hit the ball further.  Don't waste $$$ on any gimmicks.  Strengthen your wrists & forearms, Cut a broom down to about 30 inches in length and take practice swings for 5 minutes per day).  And stretch!  Flexibility is everything in golf.  The one thing to work on with balance is simply holding your follow thru on every shot you hit until the ball hits the ground.  Even if you hit it ten feet in front of you, hold your finish.

  6. will see a teaching pro at a golf course or a teaching pro at a driving range .to get the best distance to face has to be a square and close to center of the face
