I just washed an orange cap and somehow when it dried up, it ended up with two lighter oranges instead of a uniform color. Is there a way that I could dye it so it could have a uniform color. What kind of dye should I use and if I dye it will it be all the same color...Thanks!!!

  1. I have dyed tons of stuff with great sucess.  Am not sure about the dual coloring though.  If the color difference is very strong then I can only suggest you put the cap in some water and chlorine, let it fade out completley and then dye it the color you want.

Personally, I would just dye it straight off.

    You will need:

    -Dye

    -Canister to mix dye in

-Fairly big pot for boiling water

    1- pack cooking salt

-Long metal spoon or spatula (no wooden appliences allowed)

-Basin with cold water for rinsing

    -Latex gloves

The dye I use is called Dylon.  There is a big range of colors to choose from.  I place a big pot on the kitchen burner and add the dye following the instructions.  It's really easy.

Please note that when finished, you should rinse out the pot, fill it with very hot water and lots of chlorine.  Then wash it out really really well.  Any dye residue may be hazardous to your health so be careaful  I have a pot used especially for dying.

Wet your cap and wring it out.  Find yourself a long metal spoon or spatula. Once the dye is ready, carefully dip the cap into the dye using the metal spoon/spatula to submerge the cap deep inside the pot.  Mix it around gently so as not to get any dye outside the pot.

If dye happens to fall on your clothing, hands or kitchen counter, do not worry... it comes off if you wash it immediately.  Keep stiring the cap around.  Do not leave it alone.  It will float to the top and part of it will stick out not getting enough dye.

Leave it in the water for about 20 minutes.  Remove carefully by lifting it and moving it to a basin which you will keep next to the pot.  Do this to avoid dripping dye all over the kitchen.  Fill the basin up with cold water and start rinsing the cap, changing the water until it comes out clean.

Note that dyed clothing tends to fade out with the sun a lot quicker than the clothing we buy so avoid hanging it in the sun to dry.  Next time you wash, do not put it in the washer with other clothing.
