Question:

How can I earn money for this?

I have wanted to go to Japan ever since I was little. I want to go for a year in high school with a foreign exchange program. But I don't know how to raise money for it, because I'm too young to have a job. I don't know any younger children, my parents are pretty much poor, and we don't have any yards to mow as I live in an apartment. I know that I can just go in college or whatever, but I feel as if it would be more fun to live with a host family and go to high school in Japan.

Can you give me any ideas? I need to earn money for this in about 2-3 years.

And please, none of those surveys. My parents won't let me do those.

Thanks.

  1. You might consider applying to Rotary Youth Exchange. It's the cheapest program out there and a very reliable one. The funding you would need to raise is considerably less than any other one -- really, just your plane tickets.

You can either contact Rotary in your town yourself (chances are good there is a Rotary Club there -- check with your Chamber of Commerce) or get some information through this website.

Youth for Understanding, www.yfu.org, also offers some pretty decent scholarships for Japan -- especially if you are a member of FCCLA in high school. However, I'm not sure if it's as cheap as Rotary. It is also very well known and reliable.

I'd advise checking out both programs.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but it may give you ways not to have to raise quite so much! :)
