Question:

How can I easily pay my US credit card whilst living and working in the UK?

Currently, I make international bank transfers, which cost me almost as much as the actual payment. Is there any way to transfer my debt to a UK credit card? Can I set up a special bank account that allows me to pay this debt? I have called the credit card company numerous times, but they are unwilling to provide me with any other payment options. I actually have the same problem with my US student loans as well. Can anyone help?

  1. Internet banking

or you could try first contact they a company that deals with transfers namely to South Africa and Australia but i am sure they do to US also the transfer rates are reasonable may be worth a try

    good luck

  2. Set up an account with an online bank like ING and pay your US debts from there.

I don't know about transferring to a UK card, but you could get a loan for the same amount, pay off the card and just pay the UK loan.

  3. Internet Banking

You need to keep an American Bank Account....Mail Cheques to the bank manager with prearranged deposits into the account so you can make yoru payments

  4. Set up an account with an online third party foreign exchange provider - I use xe.com.  How it works is you make a sterling payment to them, they convert it into a currency of your choosing - in your case, US$, at a better rate than the high street banks will give you, then they will transfer the US$ to any US$ account of your choosing by electronic transfer and there are NO other charges for this unless you need to make WIRE transfers, standard EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) and draft payments are free. The alternative would be to set up a US$ account with a high street bank, but they are generally only used by business customers and the costs of running that just to pay off a credit card and student loan once a month would be much higher than using xe.com.

  5. most credit card companies offer online accounts - so maybe u could pay online

  6. You should be able to set up a bank account in the UK and have the US credit cards and your student load deduct the payments right out of it.

  7. Hey there CB2, I used to work at a bank & can tell you that their is no easy way to set up payments from outside the US. The only options available are to set up a credit card in the UK & transfer the balance over to that credit card once it's been set up or you can set up something like a pay pal account. I will say that the banks don't even void the charge to wire funds outside the US for their own employees. If you cannot do any of the above suggestions maybe you should ask about telephone wire transfers from you current bank in UK, maybe they offer this option & it may be cheaper. Hope that helps.
