  1. if you want to make only minor changes, it may work also with an image editing software (like PhotoShop, the GIMP, or even an image viewer like Irfanview which has the ability to add text to an image).

else, you'll have to install a true OCR program (Read Iris) which will convert (sometimes not very accurately) the scanned (image) files into rich text files or word files. the software will try to keep the original formatting of the text, but I suggest to first convert the files it will make into plain text files (without any formatting at all), spell-check it, and only then reformat, edit and whatever more you want to do on it.

  2. An OCR software takes an image file and recognizes the text on it and stores it as a text file. There are so many OCR software. You would have to specify which one you want to use so that you get specific answers.

  3. An OCR (Optical Character Reader) is a program on your computer that works with your scanner and recognizes the text from a document, you load and creates a text file of it.

You should have no problem editing that file!

If your trying to edit a text document that you simple scanned into your computer, you are going to find it imposible.

Your scanner will make a pictiure file of anything you scan.

You might be able to use "Windows Paint" or another program that reconizes the format, you are using, but you won't be able to edit the file, as if it were a text file, but a picture file!

    Go Figure!
