He just turned 1 and I know it's not unusual for him to not be standing, but I would like to encourage him to stand and walk. He pulls him self up and cruises around, but i would like to encourage him to do it on his own. Thanks!

  1. Get him a push along walker, not a ride in one. This helps him develop the coordination he needs to walk. Also, maybe a free standing table/toy(leapfrog makes a cute one that counts and does the alphabet in english and spanish). My daughter got the table and a walker for her first birthday, she got up right in the middle of the party and walked to the table to play with it, it was great entertainment for the rest of us :). She didn't really walk again for a few weeks until we had a warm spell in january, we took her walker outside for her and no kidding, she walked almost 2 miles before she got tired, lol. We walked on the sidewalks in our neighborhood for hours and let her cue us as to when she was ready to go in. He just needs to work on his balance. Trust me, in about 6 months you will be secretly wishing he'd go back to not walking again for a while, just so he's easier to keep an eye on. And wait until you reach the climbing phase. Joy, joy, joy, lol.

    Good luck!

  2. Your son will when he is ready and his muscles are developed for walking.  All 3 of my boys started walking when they were 14mos old.  Once they start walking, look-out you won't have a chance to sit for a minute.  Right now he sounds like he is doing just fine.

  3. It will happen soon~ I would enjoy this time while you have it. I encouraged my kids to walk early and now all I want them to do is sit down! Anyway~ try getting him in an area w/ no furniture and encouraging him with one of his toys. Let someone else help him stand till he gets his balance and just keep practicing~

  4. My son starting walking at 9m and was walking very well by 10m.  I think it helped that he is very mischeivous and always into stuff.. But I would start by sitting across the room (or far enough away from him, and where he is far enough from objects to use to pull up on) and act goofy, bounce around and play with him, see if that will get him excited enough to get up and come over to you??  That worked for mine.

  5. it sounds like he'll be doing it on his own pretty soon anyway, so just give him time. i realized that children do things in small increments. i love my son to death and i'm proud that he's walking now (11 months) but i'm so tired of chasing him around that i wish he was still cruising.

  6. because stuff like that seems to sometimes mimic what there parents did i advise to just hold his little fingers and pretend walk with him while you support his weight it will build his leg musceles while giving you and him some extra mommy and him time

  7. My son started walking at 10mths. I used one of his favorite toys and held it up infront of him and made it "talk" to him haha and he just started walking towards it and has been walking ever since! Good Luck

  8. Buy one of those little Tykes plastic bikes that he can hold on to the back of it by it's handle and push...pretty soon he will figure out how to cruise to the front of the bike and sit on it to ride it....as he pushes it to walk he can hold on to it with one hand at first (he will figure out how to do that too.) and then eventually let go. We bought one for my son when he was that age and he used it as something to stabilize himself as he learned how to walk. Gives him more freedom other than holding on to furniture and eventually he will just let go. He will do it when he is ready. Try it and see if it works.

  9. is he has an idol (mine is jack black) then usually children tend to do as there idol's do so find out someone who would peek his interest and who stands up for themselves then give them a movie or something where he is the main character or tell him straight up how life's going to be if he doesn't choose for himself
