Question:

How can I encourage team effort?

It seems that everytime we play volleyball (for our church, so its not like directed by a coach), we always have a ball hog. For each play, there is usually one main ball hog who will run anywhere and hit the ball back into the other side. If it's not that person, its another. We rarely as a team get all three hits, we only hit three times if we mishandle the ball and we need to. I mean, don't get me wrong, this is getting us to win, but I would rather not win if people are gonna rob the opportunity from other people to play. There are people who sacrifice their time to come, myself included, and not touch the ball even once. How can I get my team to start playing as a team, without offending anyone or boring anyone?

  1. Ive never done this on my team but it might work

u could offer them a small treat at the end of the game if you earn at least 15 ( watever u want the # 2 b) points as a whole team(2 to3 hits try for 3)

and if they do that then give them a small treat

    Good Luck

U could also try taking out the ball hog and giving every1 else a fair enough try

4 i think that they would rather hav fun a and hit the ball then not do like anything the whole game

  2. by being optimistic and complementing people that usually don't have the ball

  3. If you want the ball, you have to let them know it. Call for it-and loudly- and that way if they s***w it up it looks bad on them. Play the same way, become the ball hog. And if it's your ball, don't be afraid to knock them over, because YOU called it. Also, call things out like, "okay guys, 3 hits" or "set it up" and make people start calling for their hits ("yeah" or "here") or arrange with your setter to set different people. It is so frustrating but I hope this helps!

  4. For our team, we do "peppering".  This is when we all get in a big circle in the begginning of practice, and we have to keep it in the air.  You can only hit once, and you rely on the other players to get it in the air.

Another way the coach gets us to have team work is by a lot of drills.

    1.  He puts three people in a line.  The first person has to hit it all the way over to the third person, whom has to set it to the second person.  The second person has to set it the first person, and it continues.

    2.  We do the peppering drill with a setter in the middle, so we learn to get it to the setter for the second hit.

    3.  A lot of it has to do with learning.  Someone needs to make sure they stay in their positions.  Learn how to back people up, INFORCE the three hit rule.

    4.  We do a hitting drill.  We throw the ball to the setter, whom then sets it and we have to hit it.  This shows that we have to get the second hit to get a good hit in.  It is a lot more fun when you are working together.

I have a lot more drills, and a lot more ways to work together- maybe even better ones-so you can email me if you want to!
