Question:

How can I end a car lease, an auto lease, for safety issues?

I leased a new car 4 months ago. Twice it has had the same safety problem - when I'm driving the car, all of a sudden it accelerates to a high speed. I've been lucky so far, I was able to stop it by shutting off the car, but if this happens again I may have an accident, hit another car, or even a pedestrian. The car dealership couldn't replicate the situation but said it was fixed the first time, and then it happened again. And now they're trying to fix it again - another type of fix. I am afraid to drive this vehicle and will not let friends and family drive it and I'm even afraid to have others ride with me. How can I get out of my lease. I live in Virginia and the Lemon law here covers leased vehicles, but do I need to pay a lawyer to just try and stay alive?

  1. The lemon laws for all states and I know that you have already read it, has many "loopholes" that are just (BS).

One of the "loopholes states that the dealer or servicing shop will have a "reasonable" number of attempts to repair it.

The other thing is that you said that they could not duplicate the problem, that is (BS) as well but you need to keep of your service tickets...

A lawyer is one way but it will cost you, the other way is to contact the vehicles manufacturers customer service department and file a claim against your dealer that is doing the work.

They will have to respond back within 30 days or they can loose 1 percent which will add up to alot of money.

You also need to get the area zone manager involved and meet with you so that he or she can try and resolve this for you.

Do the above first and see what will happen, also while you are speaking with the manufacturer, ask them for any (Recalls) and (TSB"s) Technical Service Bulletins that might deal with this problem.

    Good luck.

  2. I like ucantcme's answer, but for the immediate future, I would tell the dealer that, 'THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND I WILL SUE YOU FOR AS MUCH MONEY AS THE LAW WILL ALLOW IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME A DIFFERENT CAR AND I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS ONE, WHICH IS ALMOST SURE TO HAPPEN'

  3. you may be able to get a free consultation from an attorney ... try calling a few .
