Question:

How can I enhance my reading experience?

I found a scientifically compiled list of the 100 greatest books of all time:

I can't decide whether I want to start at the top of the list (The Great Gatsby) and go down, or start at the bottom of the list and move up (Frankenstein). In your opinion, which method would best enhance my reading experience?

  1. read the short summaries of the book first (like they do on the back of books) and decide from the summary if you want to read that book more than the others.

  2. For me, I think reading is an amazing experience in itself. But, none the less, my friend told me he always reads a book while listening to a new CD. Whenever he hears those songs, he's reminded of the book he read while first listening to it.

  3. Take shrooms?

  4. The best way for anyone to enhance their reading experience is for them to read what interests them.

This list is fine, I guess, but it is no more scientifically chosen than many other such, and is just as debatable as any other. If I were you I would skip around at will. You'll be far better off reading fifty books that you want to read than you will be if you bog down on Ulysses and feel that you've failed in your mission.

If you insist on an order then I'd start at the bottom. Then you can probably make it all the way up to Proust before you stall out.

Reading shouldn't be a chore though. I'd say try to have some fun with your goal.
