I am writing an engine simulator program. How could I estimate the combustion temperature if I have the number of BTUs being released?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  1. Use thermodynamics. For more info, google Otto cycle.

Basically, PV = mRT is the ideal gas law. Throw in a "Z" for real gases. This gets you the general relationship.

You still need energy input. First, you have w=integral (PdV). Also, add thermal input. Then, use thermal capacitance of gas to get temp, and you are there.

If you google things like "internal combustion" and such, and work through all the related Wiki articles, you should be able to find a worked out problem.
