She is only 2 1/2 weeks old, but I just want to know how to go about this when she is ready. What's a good age to try this?

  1. try and keep a schedule, and try to put her to bed EARLIER. the earlier she gets to bed, the more she will sleep, ironic but true. and do not try to keep her awake thinking you will get more sleep later, just throws them off

  2. she will sleep through the night when she is ready. you can start a routine now. you can try the usual lavender lotion, nature sounds, cool room and a full tummy. most babies take about 2-5 months

  3. Get the book what to expect the first year.  Many babies don't sleep through the night until around 4 months.  The reason for this is babies don't have enough body fat to substain themselves a full night.  It's also important that you put the baby down for the night while they are still awake.  Set a bed time and put the baby down.  A routine may make it easier.  I learned the hard way.  I thought that babies had to be rocked to sleep or nursed to sleep.  I was wrong and it took a couple of months for my daughter to get on a desent sleep schedule.  We had to go through her crying herself to sleep.  You can prevent that by getting her on a schedule at a early age like 3 or 4 months.

  4. Babies will sleep through the night when they are ready to.  Nothing you can do will make it happen any faster.  Babies wake for a variety of reasons, but mainly because they are hungry.  I am not one for the crying it out method or not feeding or feeding solids to early or whatever tricks people will tell you will work.  They won't.  My son did not sleep through the night until 8 months.  Now he goes down every day for naps and at nighttime with absolutely no problems.  I put him in his bed and he goes to sleep.  Sometimes you get lucky and get a sleeper, other times, you don't.  Just let your baby set the pace and it will all work out.

  5. Hi,

Your baby is still very young at the moment but I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine.  I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!

  6. You cant make the baby sleep through the night. She will do it when she is ready to. You can help her by keeping night time simple. Do not play with her at night time. Avoid talking or only talk very quietly, keep the lights dimmed and change and feed her when she needs it and then get her back to sleep. eventually she will stop waking at night time but this will happen when she is ready

  7. you should do a night time routine, whatever works for you, in my house its play time till 530 then I make dinner, we eat dinner, tv goes off, quietish play time while I clean up the meal, bath time, book with some milk (sometimes he needs a snack before bed) and then to bed. My son never slept through the night until he turned one, then after trying every scenerio out there, he just started sleeping through all on his own.

  8. Unfortunately you have no control over when she starts sleeping through the night.  There are a few things you can do to help her sleep better.  Get a routine going at night....give her a bath, do something quiet with her...singing lullabies, read a book, give her a bottle and put her to bed when she is still awake but very sleepy.  If it's been a little while since she's had a bottle...give her a little more to help keep her tummy full longer.  Some people say to add a little cereal to her bottle....it's not a guarantee though.  My daughter is 4 months old and has been waking once a night....feeding her cereal hasn't changed a thing.  She still wakes up once a night to eat but luckily goes right back to sleep!

Good luck and congrats on your daughter!

  9. Every baby is different. Some take 4 weeks some take 8 weeks it really depends. I would try whenever you think she is ready and if it doesnt work out then try like a week later. Good luck! =)

  10. When shes ready she'll sleep through the night.  You cant make the sleep through the night, and you have a long way until she does.  Only a few lucky people have babies that sleep during the night at a young age.

  11. There are a few things that you can do even now that will help build a healthy sleep pattern. The best thing to do is try to let your baby fall asleep on your own by putting her in the crib or bassinet drowsy but awake. She may not be able to fall asleep on her own just yet, but soon she'll be able to. This is the key to sleeping through the night because babies have sleep cycles just like adults do. Many babies wake through the night between sleep cylces and if she puts herself to sleep, she won't need you to get back to sleep. Obviously, you will be up with her for quite some time. Until her tummy is big enough to go all night without a feeding, she'll still wake up. My baby slept through the night at 4 months but some go earlier and so go later. By 6 months, babies no longer have a physical need to eat a night, they wake for comfort or out of habit.

A night time routine is a GREAT thing for babies!

    I hope this helps!
