There is a big irrigation ditch that is near our house. I drove along the road that follows it today, It is a back way into our neighborhood. I Happened to look down into a certain part of it as I drove by , and there was a bunch of people with hammocks and sleeping on cardboard in there. There was a big fire in this ditch recently that burned right up to our back yard, and all of our neighbors yards, too. If I hadnt just mowed and weed eated back there, it might have caught all of or trees and stuff on fire. The fire Dept. said they hadnt found out who started it, But I am sure it was these ditch livers. Now I am worried they will be breaking into our sheds and outbuildings and stuff, That ditch is on the property of some farmers, but they arent making them move. I feel bad for homeless people, too, but many of them just dont really care what kinds of problems they cause. It is a bad fire season here, and I just dont think these people need to be living there. or building campfires they dont watch. What should I do.

  1. did you call the authorities?

If the authorities won't do anything you can make the ditch people miserable in any number of ways...

legally...if I were you I"d get a bunch of friends together and go down there and ask them to leave. If they won't leave I'd sit there on the side of the road where they can see you for a long time every  night, making them nervous... don' t shoot at them or anything, but I'd ask them to leave over and over until they get tired of being there, they'll move on.

  2. Don't worry, when the rainy season comes, it will wash them away!

  3. Local government essentially exists for this reason.  Give them a call.
