How can I fade that color on fabric?

I have some wicker basket liners that are a lavender gingham and I need the color to be closer to lilac. I was thinking I might be able to wash the liners with something to make them fade a little. The colors are close, but the lavender is brighter.... any ideas?

  1. try a little bit of rocksalt

  2. Use very small amounts of chlorin.

  3. Try washing them with an old school detergent (No color safe or brighteners) borax like the old school 20 mule team may help.  or you can try a touch of chlorine bleach but be careful with this one as it can fade irregularly or too much.

Other possible solution would be to put them in a laundry bag and wash & dry them with some lava rocks or pumice stone pieces. (like the old popular "stone washed" jeans)

  4. buy a dye in the colour you want.

  5. small amount of bleach

  6. bleach

  7. Rit also makes something called "Color Remover" which comes in a little box.  You could try using *just a bit* of that stuff to see what happened too.  Use lots of water or motion to make sure the effect is even.

Some color pigments are more colorfast than others though or applied with more quality, and sometimes the fabric the colors are put on can matter too in terms of how colorfast a fabric will be.

Sometimes jut putting fabric in the sun for a few days or weeks will fade colors too (and that should speed up the work of bleach as well?).

If you do that though, be sure the entire fabric is all getting the same amount of sun all over or you'll get streaks or areas that are lighter than others.

  8. Wash several times in HOT water with a little bit of bleach. Be sure to add the bleach to the water before you put the fabric in, and dry on high heat, it might fade a little. There may be something in the "RIT" fabric dye rack at the store made for that kind of stuff. See if there is a stonewashing chemical available.
