Question:

How can I fall asleep faster?

I am 14 and I can't fall asleep fast enough. I could be up for 2-3 hours and still feel awake. Then I feel really tired in the morning. Especially at sleepovers.

I want to know what I can think about to make me feel sleepy , tricks that help you fall to sleep, or anything like that. My parents won't let me take any medicine, sleeping pills, etc. So if you can think of any other ideas that have nothing to do with medicine, that would be great! Thanks!

  1. switch to decaf coffee in the morning.  it works as a placebo.  because of the taste, you think its waking u you up.  then, when you get ready for bed @ night, it wont keep you awake.

  2. A fan running all night works REALLY good for me.

Don't wake up to late. Exercise, and stay active. If you don't keep busy mentally and physically you will have a harder time falling asleep.

Stress and worry are also problems. If you have them I would reccommend that you read more uplifting books about handling life, and stress. Sounds a bit dorky but it worked for me. I prefer Ekhart Tolle, or Caroline Myss.

I used to go to sleepovers and end up back at home everytime. It's a matter of teaching yourself to relax, or just don't go for the sleepover part.

Also getting up every day at the same time (earlier) helps too.

Staying away from the addicting internet helps ALOT! :o)

My biggest advice even if it doesn't matter... I have taken many meds for multiple things. If you research pharmacutial companies, and medication issues and addiction problems along with long term side effects like memory etc. You will thank your parents, they are smart for not letting you take them. I think we all need to toughen up and try a little harder instead of taking the easy way out with every little thing.

  3. Best thing to do is try to get some physical activity during the day. This will help a lot. If not then i would try not eating or drinking anything but water 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Make sure you don't have to go to the bathroom and try reading a book while lying down in bed. When you do go to bed make sure you don't have any lights on and turn your t.v, music or anything else that will distract you off. Also try not to think about anything that is worrying you or anything that you have to do the next day, try to relax. And for the sleep overs well, I'm always tired after sleep overs. Stay up all night and get very little sleep that's the point, right? Hope this helped! :D

  4. Exercise during the day. It will make you physically tired therefore your body can do nothing but sleep. During the summer I do nothing and have trouble sleeping. In the fall when I play football I go to sleep in literally seconds.
