How can I figure out my true passion?

Hello. I'm a 16 year old high school senior and I have many interests and I feel it's seriously time to pursue one. The areas i'm interested in are film, computers, writing (journalism, fiction), acting (since I was very young) , psychology, criminal law.

I know it's a lot and i feel i should really narrow it down and start studying one or two areas. So is there an exercise to figure out where my heart is.......or can you tell me where the MONEY is?

  1. There is absolutely no reason to think you need to narrow it down right now. You're only 16. There are still 40 year olds figuring it out. Take your GE classes, take a diverse selection of them, and see what things you like and what one's you don't.

    As far as money:

Film: Yes, but it's on in a million

Computers: Depends, but it can be lucrative

Journalism: Not really, but I'd bet most journalists really love what they do

Fiction: Yes, but it's one in a million and getting tougher (dying medium)

Acting: Yes, but it's one in a billion

Psychology: Yes, but it's tough and takes quite a bit of school. It's also one the the very most populated majors at every school. Lots of fish in a small pond

Criminal Law: Depends where, but typically yes. Even police officers (depending on where) get paid pretty well. If you're talking about a lawyer it really depends. Like psychology it's a lot of fish in a very big pond

  2. I would go to payscale.com or salary.com to find out salaries

I took the Myers Briggs personality test (you can search for it on google) to figure out your personality - (tells you if you are more introverted or extroverted, etc.) and from there you can get a list of the types of careers that best suit you based on your personality.

hope this helps :)  remember, you can always double major or minor if you can't just narrow it down to one.
